What is fear?

A four-letter word that is scary enough to send people in pits of anxiety and depression is “fear”. Adults who are afraid of going in the dark might have been told to fear dark as a kid. Fear is a by-product of a hidden phenomenon. It can mean different things to different people. In underdeveloped countries, women fear going out late at night. This fear was built up through incidents of snatching, kidnapping, and even rape attempts.

How to deal with fear?

It might seem scary and something that you don’t want to deal with heads on. But it’s not as bleak, and there’s always a ray of hope. There are several ways to deal with fear. Let’s take a look at some of them;

Breathe:

Most of the time, we are doing it without realizing it. In situations when one is afraid, practicing deep breathing can help in managing fear. Take slow and deep breaths and allow your heartbeat to return to normal. This is an excellent coping mechanism to deal with panic.

Go for a walk:

It might seem simple, but the benefits are many. A walk is a gift that keeps on giving. Taking yourself out of the fearful situation for a walk will help you in thinking better.

Don’t rush to be perfect:

Many people go the extra mile in an attempt to be perfect. People-pleasing is a hard habit. It can affect your mind negatively. So, don’t rush to be perfect as nobody is. Just do your best and be content with it.

Think of a happy place:

Using the power of your mind to go back to happy times can have an immediate positive impact on your mood. Every time you are afraid of something, step back and think of a happy place. Close your eyes and imagine you’re somewhere safe and calm. These positive feelings will soothe you and calm your fear.

Acknowledge your fear:

Many people make the mistake of dealing with everything on their own. No sharing the burden can lead to an overworked mind. Acknowledging it can release you from the burden of dealing alone.
